Diesel fuel in winter – Features of refueling in the cold season

Greetings to you, friends. Despite the fact that diesel cars have many advantages, attitude towards them in Russia is quite careful. In most regions of our country, it is very cold and drivers are simply afraid of problems with the launch of severe frosts. And the whole point is that diesel fuel in winter does not rarely comply with the required characteristics. How to choose a diesel fuel corresponding to the season?

The whole problem in the paraffin diesel. At low temperatures, they begin to crystallize. As a result, the diesel fuel begins to cloudy, and then thickens and turns into a jelly -like mass that clogs the fuel trunk.

To prevent such processes, diesel fuel release three types:

Summer diesel fuel, it begins to thicken at a temperature of minus 10 degrees;

Diesel fuel in winter is divided into winter and arctic. Winter is recommended to use up to minus 35 degrees. And the Arctic retains its working characteristics to minus 50 degrees.

Summer diesel fuel thickens already at -10 degrees

Naturally, the lower the freezing temperature of diesel fuel, the more you have to add various additives to it and the more expensive it is in production. Gas stations should switch to winter diesel fuel when the temperature begins to drop below +5 degrees. You yourself understand that no one will rinse the tanks for fuel at gas stations. Therefore, in the transition period, we refueled by a mixture of winter and summer fuel. How she will behave in the conditions of colds, even a specialist will not be able to answer. Therefore, I recommend using the first cold weather with the onset of diesel fuel. This is a special additive that prevent crystalling even purely summer fuel. Before the first frosts, be sure to remove water from the fuel filter. Even a novice driver will cope with this operation. It will not be superfluous and get rid of the water contained in the fuel tank. It’s not difficult either. And how to do this can be read in the article “How to remove water from the fuel tank”.

Antigel will not let even summer fuel thicken

Take care of the choice of gas stations carefully. Try to refuel only with large and trusted operators. Pay attention to the tracks where the truckers are taken. They have a very well debugged process of exchanging information. So you can trust their choice without fears. But if for some reason I had to refuel in an unfamiliar place, just in case, add an antigel to the tank, which I have already mentioned.

If the nuisance happened and the fuel was flooded with you, which does not correspond to the temperature conditions, and it turned into jelly, you should not panic. Nothing catastrophic with the engine will happen. True, the way out of the situation is only one. Call a tow truck or tug the car in a warm garage in tow. Well, after it warms up or drain the diesel fuel and refuel another, or again use the antigel.

And remember, diesel fuel in winter should correspond to the climatic features in which the car will have to operate. Therefore, refueling in winter requires a certain precaution from the driver.
